A good painter and a good gardener need to be fearless, optimistic, and have an adventurous spirit. The art work they produce is a collaboration between the painter's or gardener's hands, their unique vision, and the life and purpose of the painting or garden themselves. The painter and the gardener need to be adventurous enough to respond with an open heart and mind to what's before them. They are simultaneously guides and passengers on a journey not wholly of their making.
My still life paintings, like these eccentric gardens, are my search for the strength and intensity that comes from a balance of structure, wild abandon and joy!
