In the summer of 2005, Cha Cha and Elizabeth Black noticed that the two flower beds in front of the Canyon Gallery of the Boulder Public Library were desolate and empty, covered with bark-mulch.
Due to the past drought and the current City budget crisis, there was no money to plant or care for these flower beds. We thought this was a wonderful opportunity to create something beautiful. We approached the Parks Department, and offered to adopt these beds, and create an Eccentric Garden here.
Cha Cha and Rebecca DiDomenico planned the paths and sculpture placement.
With donated plants, materials, and labor from the Eccentric Artists’ group, area businesses, and the City, we have raised $10,483 of in-kind and cash contributions to date, and have created the Eccentric Library Garden. Our group will be taking care of the gardens over the next two years.
Elizabeth, Cha Cha, Rebecca, and many others planted donated plants.
We installed a permanent sculpture base in the Eccentric Library Garden. It is a 4 foot square concrete pad with an extra security bolt on the side to chain pieces to.
Sculpture here will change annually, giving area sculptors a new opportunity
to show their outdoor work. The base is currently home to a Bill Vielehr
bronze sculpture, donated to the City by Crossroads Mall. Cha Cha will be
the next artist to show here in September of 2006. Would you like to show
your sculpture here? Click here to learn more about the sculpture pad and
The Eccentric Library Garden has helped to beautify the City campus and create a collaborative community project. We will be sandblasting stones with donor’s names, and placing them in the path at the Eccentric Library Garden, to give our donors public recognition. Would you like to donate to our project and get a stone in the path with your name on it? Contact Cha Cha, and let her know.
New Project for 2006:
The Eccentric Sound World.
We will be installing a new permanent sound component to the Eccentric Library Garden, which will rejuvenate your sense of wonder and awe.
The 2006 Eccentric Artists’ Garden Exhibit and Tour enlightens our
community to the magic of garden as art and artistry in gardens. The Library
Exhibit shares that magic with a broad audience;
the Eccentric Library Garden enchants daily passers-by all
the Garden Tour intimately involves participants in the magic of unique Boulder garden spaces. We hope to inspire more people to become gardeners, more gardeners to become artists, and more artists to share their vision with their entire community.
This project would not be possible without the generous support of our donors. Many thanks to all of them!
