My cottage garden is self-designed and self-maintained and surrounds my house which is an original Louisville coal miner’s home. I have hens-n-chicks, quail and even a kiwi—maybe a butterfly will show up while you are visiting my mostly-native plants display! I especially like the less-common natives and xeric choices which create a gathering place for wild friends---I hope you’ll be one of them!
I have lots of old western ‘stuff’ in my garden like wheels and farm things and even a real strawberry bed! Last year I helped raise four baby robins in the nest built in the tines of the old pitchfork hanging on my garage---maybe their parents read the National Wildlife Backyard Habitat designation on my gate!
You’ll see two successful ‘hell-strips’ one on the south, the other on the east in dirt which used to be the alley paved with red ash from the mines in Louisville’s earlier years. Come on by and see where the spectacle of the garden is today!
