Carol Watkins

Carol melds current computer technology with traditional needle arts to express her vision. Photographic images are manipulated and distorted resulting in a deliberate element of ambiguity.

The process begins with a photograph that is digitally adjusted until it expresses a tone or feeling, and then white cloth is imprinted with archival inks. The newly created fabric is pieced, painted and stitched. Carol states, “I strive to create art that gives me a deeper intuition into the meaning of life. I aim to share my outlook and connect to others through art.”

Currently Carol is making mixed media fiber work for the wall, silk scarves and teaching classes in printing on fabric. She has a new book, Print Your Own Fabric, available through

Carol’s work has been juried into national exhibitions including Quilt National 2011, acquired by private and corporate collections. She has been accepted twice as Artist-in-Residence at National Parks.
